Who's job is it anyway?

Being a Realtor, we at times have transactions where the other Realtor does everything they are supposed to do throughout the entire process...and there are times the other Realtor, simply put, does not.  We may never know why the other side dropped the ball but the fact is that it happens.

When I am in a transaction, like all other Realtors, I watch out for my client's best interest.  In situations where I have to pick up the slack caused by another professional's lack of ability, I just do it.  I am paid to complete transactions for my clients.  They will never know about half the problems I have to overcome to make the entire process a simple and pain free experience for them.  This is actually true for what I call "Administrative Problems" or things that only have to do with the process or which Realtor does what.

When it comes to money, payments for escrow fees or property clouds and problems, there must always be full disclosure to your client.  Having said that, shame on us as Realtors if petty little problems get in the way of our client's wishes!  Our job is to simply, MAKE IT HAPPEN!

While I would agree with you wholeheartedly, it is truly a shame that this is growing to be more of a rule rather than an exception.  Good reminder though!

Michael andGayle:  I think your approach is just great common sense, but unfortunately it is often ignored.  If something isn't being done, and it needs to be in order for the loan to close, it really does not matter who does it... as long as the loan closes.  Obviously, license laws must be obeyed, but... the customer needs to be taken care of.

I let my clients know what I do for them after the close when these things happen.  They need to know when you give extra service not for accolades, but just so they know that you care.

Great post.  You are the epitome of a true professional.  Watching out for the clients best interest and they don't even know what obstacles you had to over come.  That's what creates life long clients.

You're right.  The clients needs and interests are top priority.  Get the job done.  Argue laster about who might have dropped the ball...   hopefully it wasn't you!

Thank you all for your comments!  We are all professional in our own minds, I can only wish that there were a mirror that showed the truth when we looked into it.  Just look at the transactions where you have you have to pick up the slack as great practice!  The fact is that it is easy to LOOK professional when everything is going great, the test is to look and be professional when the going gets tough.

Cheers-

AMEN!  It's disgusting to see the lack of care that can happen out there, especially on the other side of a transaction.  And you're right, the bottom line is MAKE IT HAPPEN!  I've found that by being proactive (rather than waiting for someone else to not do their job) it actually saves me a lot of time.  It's worth it to me, and it's worth it for my clients.
