What is your Corporate Culture?

cor*po*rate cul*ture (Noun) 1. A company's values and customs, the values, customs, and traditions of a particular company, usually a large corporation.  2. Atmosphere in large companies.  the professional atmosphere that prevails in large corporations generally, reflected in people's dress, conduct, and ways of communicating.

I was formally trained in the concepts of Corporate Culture when I was working for a Japanese Corporation in Hawaii.  To Japan and Japanese Business, culture is EVERYTHING.  In business, it means going up the Chairman and President's offices to say good morning and back to the same offices when you are done for the day to thank them for the work you did and apologise for being rude by leaving before them.  It means personally escorting clients to the drinking fountain or restroom.  It's greeting each client as they arrive and thanking them when they leave.  There is a lifetime more that is Japanese corporate culture that I could write here.

I would never try to get NAR members to try to emulate Japanese corporate structure.  Many of us already do practice bits and pieces of this very formal style in our lives as Realtors, and MANY more have no clue.  Obviously we don't all work for the same broker or company.  Some of us prefer to work in large national franchise companies and some of us like to work in small companies and still more of us are on our own with a couple of Realtors on our team.  Which ever is true for you, we are all a part of the Real Estate Industry.

I sat an open house this past weekend at one of my listings and I was shocked at the amount of Realtors that came by and did not come up and say hi and present a business card.  Many did, and all of the members of the public that came by were very pleasant.

I would like to suggest to all, that we are all associates in this industry and often face the same trials and tribulations.  We may not all personally know each other, but we should be very friendly with each other.  A business card and a smile with a hello and maybe even a handshake???

Alone we are simply scattered pieces of the whole Real Estate Industry, but TOGETHER we can move mountains.  Would you like to put an end to this "Real Estate Crisis"?  We can start by treating each other as friends and colleagues and stop running around like chickens with our heads cut off as if it were the end of the world!  We are professionals and we value the service and value we give our clients and our COUNTRY!

Think about it...

Cheers

Mike
