Who do people see when you answer the phone?

You know when you're listening to the radio and you hear the voice of the DJ, and then at some point later you actually see that person?  How often does the person look like the person you had in your mind?

First impressions are key, and you know the rule, you only get ONE chance to make one.  When people call us and we answer, they will have an impression of you.  In our business, it could be another Realtor, and potential client, or an actual client on the other end.

What does your greeting say, I'm not asking what words you use, I'm asking about tone, inflection, energy, positive, negative, professional, flake, what impression do people get about you?

When I make a call and the other person has the, "I'm so busy, why are you bothering me" tone of voice, or the "I don't understand why you are call me" tone and I'm calling to show one of his listings to my buyer client, the first thing that goes through my head is, "Do I really want to go through escrow with this nut job?"

If we always knew where our next sale was coming from, it might not be a big deal.  But in our business, we never know where it is going to come from, who referred us the whom or when are we going to have to work and depend on this person that 1 minute ago we did not know.

You decide who people see when they call you.  Take control of it and let it be just one of the keys to your success!

Think about it.

Cheers-

Mike

hhhmmm, I wonder who my voice looks like? Great question. It is always good to be able to put a face to a voice.

Very true and people are deciding if they want to work with you from the second you answer your phone!

I was taught to smile while on the phone.  People can hear it.

Hi you two,

Good points. Every now and then when I change my outgoing message (actually daily, I use real time v/m) I notice changes in my energy level, it has a huge impact to callers. And long ago, I was told by another agent that I sounded busy, also not good. Now I try to keep it more upbeat and steady.
